This handsome mid century tallboy is not only practical with 6 draws, it has been refinished and hand painted with my own Magpie maximalist design. To give an idea of the size of just the art work alone, it’s 94cm by 73m. So pretty large! The maker’s Mark is the reputable, ‘Homesworthy’. Photos also show a before pic and the stencil I made).

The whole piece is painted in a dark blue eggshell, with gold gild accents along the edges and legs. The little square knobs are original to the piece, and each have a slightly raised and shaped piece of wood in the middle. The drawers have been lined with a lightly textured wallpaper, and within each, there is a hand painted pearl ring placed in various positions in each drawer that the Magpies have stolen and kept in the drawers! 🙂. (The rings have been sealed to protect clothes).

You may notice the top left knob is painted black, as it was in the exact position of the bird’s eye, so I painted it black to blend in as it looked like he was wearing a pair of retro glasses, haha.

And for the superstitious; I’ve made sure I’ve painted two, so whoever this one-off, unique piece ends up going to, they will always have ‘joy’! Hehe 😉😊✨

PROCESS HIGHLIGHTS:

🔸Whole piece cleaned, stripped of old finish, dings repaired, then painted in dark blue eggshell.

🔸Magpie design was drawn out on card first, then cut out to use as a stencil for the outline, then details were painted in there after using custom blended iridescent paints. Whole artwork was then sealed.

🔸The drawers were lined in slightly textured wallpaper, and the pearl rings were painted then sealed.

🔸Whole piece was waxed as a final finish

🔸Each little knob has been gently cleaned, and the wooden parts in the middle have all been waxed.

I always advise using something protective under items such as cups, plant pots etc, if being placed upon any piece of furniture. This is to protect the finish and keep it looking fresh.
